THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
“We need more tailors. I am proud of the fact that Rockford came together to help support this wonderful program.”
— State Representative Dave Vella
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Our Industrial Sewing Machine Operator Apprenticeship is the first of its kind in the U.S. In just one year, apprentices become U.S. Department of Labor–certified industrial sewists, completing over 2,000 hours of hands-on training in sewing, garment repair, and fashion design, plus 144 hours of classroom instruction in job readiness and employability skills.
We proudly train apprentices from diverse international backgrounds, incorporating Business English when needed to support their success. Respected local educators lead classroom lessons, while hands-on training takes place with the expert sewists at Tad More Tailoring and Alterations, our for-profit arm.
At the end of the program, apprentices earn a Department of Labor certification recognized nationwide, opening doors to a career in fashion design, tailoring, and alterations.
